Frequently Asked Questions
What services does RenewablesQA provide?
We provide training-led technical and documentation support to help contractors prepare for MCS: 2025. This includes Quality Management System review, documentation alignment, and installation guidance reviews delivered as advisory, non-audit training sessions.
Are you affiliated with MCS or any Certification Body?
No. We are fully independent of Certification Bodies, schemes, manufacturers, suppliers and training providers.
Do you perform certification audits?
No. We do not carry out audits or any work that forms part of a formal certification process. All our reviews are advisory and designed to build competence and confidence.
If we follow your recommendations, will we pass our assessment?
We cannot guarantee the outcome of any third-party audit. However, implementing our recommendations consistently will significantly improve readiness and reduce the likelihood of non-conformities.
Do you provide documentation templates?
Not directly. We review your existing documents, explain what each needs to include, and highlight any missing or unclear elements.
Do you populate documents for us?
No. All documentation must be completed by the contractor as part of certification requirements.
Technical Supervisor and Competence
What is the role of the Technical Supervisor?
The TS is responsible for technical integrity, supervision, design justification and overall installation compliance. We help TSs understand evidence expectations and how to demonstrate and record competency.
What qualifications does a TS need?
A TS must hold an in-date qualification or personnel certification relevant to the technology. Certification Bodies make the final determination.
Non-Conformities in Training
Do you issue non-conformities?
No. We identify high-priority concerns, functional issues and documentation gaps only for training and improvement. These are not formal NCs.
Are these the same as Certification Body NCs?
No. Certification Bodies apply their own assessment and NC criteria during formal audits.
Design, Survey and Planning
Why is a detailed survey important?
A thorough survey underpins correct design, product selection, structural assessment, planning compliance, performance estimates, and customer expectations. Most issues arise from incomplete survey information.
Do you help with planning and MCS 020 noise?
Yes. We provide guidance on permitted development, boundary distances, MCS 020 noise assessments and system volume limits. Final planning decisions are made by local authorities.
Installation Guidance
What standards do you reference?
We base guidance on:
- MIS 3002, MIS 3005 and MIS 3012
- MCS 031
- BS 7671
- BS EN 12831
- HWA 002
- IET Codes of Practice
- Manufacturer installation requirements
Do you verify Building Regulations compliance?
We explain what installers must notify and what evidence should be kept for audit. We do not issue building control approvals.
Customer Handover
Do you review handover packs?
Yes. We review handover documentation for accuracy, completeness and clarity, including performance estimates, datasheets, warranties, O&M information, schematics and safety guidance.
